I like to ask “Why?”…because I’m curious and weird…
I’ve been debating for years whether I should start a blog, star in a reality show or write about my life. Today I decided to start small…with a blog. So here we go inter webs..it’s time to meet me and hopefully I inspire some people to start pushing their own boundaries or at least be true to themselves.
Last year, I started dating a boy and he asked me why I was so weird. Naturally, this question had me thinking…how many times have I been told I was weird or asked why I was so weird?
So why was I so weird…Why??
Reasons I was weird as a child…according to other people..
- At age 10, I decided I’d move to Africa when I grew up
- I ate brie with ketchup…and didn’t eat turkey for Thanksgiving..(ROULADEN for life! Look it up)
- I was obsessed with any dramatic events in the world starting at age 3, when I questioned my mom about gas chambers in Nazi-run concentration camps
- I said and still do say “Adidas” and “Ikea” like Europeans do
- I changed my name’s pronunciation at the ripe age of 4
- I was and still am friends with people that didn’t look, dress or think like me (this wasn’t the norm back in the day…and still is considered “weird” by many)
- I spent my summers in Germany growing up
List of possible reasons I’m weird now..
- I will buy an “engagement-type” ring for myself and wear it on my engagement finger, because I want to..and not care what anyone has to say about that
- I have my own version of English people called “Annika”
- I will cry infant of my boss if they’re mean to me and have no feelings of embarrassment, because mean people should have uncomfortable consequences too
- I’m still not scared to travel to many countries others think were dangerous or too culturally different
- I’ve never seriously dated a white guy (and I’m white! GASP!!! somehow this is a crime…)
- I did my MBA not to make a huge income, but to help consult entrepreneurs to make more money in developing countries (and I’m not currently doing this…but would love to someday soon..)
In the end, I told him one simple thing…
Because weird people push boundaries.
Forget about the norms you blindly follow…Get weird people!
If you want to be part of the progress in this world, you need to get outside of what you or others would say is normal. Stop caring about what others think! If you’re not hurting anyone..then all is ok.
And push it..push push it real good as some of rap’s finest queens say.
“Salt and Pepa’s here, and we’re in effect
Want you to push it, babe
Coolin’ by day then at night working up a sweat
C’mon girls, let’s go show the guys that we know
How to become number one in a hot party show
Now push itAh, push it – push it good
Ah, push it – push it real good
Ah, push it – push it good
Ah, push it – p-push it real good”
